The rich heritage of music from Portugal is in part due to privileged geographical location, receiving musical influences from rhythms played in countries around the Mediterranean Sea, across Europe and other colonies, and despite its firm European roots, reflects the intercontinental cultural interactions with Portuguese discoveries and colonization of Cape Verde, Brazil, Mozambique, Angola and Guinea-Bissau among other parts of the Portuguese Empire. Brazil and Cape Verde , have their influences from musical styles of African, European and Amerindian roots. We are featuring: From Portugal Jose Alfonso, Medredeus, Sergio Godhinho and Alfredo Merceneiro; from Brazil Joao Gilberto, Elis Regina, Vinicius da Moraes, Gal Costa, and from Cape Verde Tito Paris, Tcheka, Ildo Lobo and Cesaria Evora among many others.
