Delgado still against impeachment
May 30, 2019 12:45 am
William J. Kemble reports in the Daily Freeman that Rep. Antonio Delgado, a Democrat from Rhinebeck, said "I did not run ... to impeach the president," at a town hall meeting in Ulster County May 28. The comment came one day before Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller told Congress how his report could be used to impeach the president. But Delgado does not believe in impeachment. “I very much support the leadership’s position at this point to continue to investigate,” Delgado said. “There is a process here, and that process needs to unfold.” Some Congressional observers note that an official impeachment process would make it easier to get documents and testimony from a reluctant administration. “Unfortunately we are receiving some severe push-back,” Delgado said. “The fact that we can’t get [former White House counsel Donald] McGahn to testify, the fact that we can’t get the unredacted [Mueller] report, the fact that we can’t get the underlying documents that support the report are all very problematic."
