Thuy Ong reports in The Verge that Samsung will unlock the FM radio chips in their cell phones. Most cell phones have FM radio chips, and most are locked, blocking use. Now Samsung phones will play the radio, even when the internet is down. Apple says its iPhone 7 and 8 models don’t have the FM radio chips, so they won't be turning on the radio. Federal Communication Commission chairman Ajit Pai claims that about 44 percent of the “top-selling smartphones” in America have activated FM radios chips compared to 80 percent in Mexico.
