The Poseidon Adventure: Seven contemporary artists in a show of works that won't last the exhibition.
eteam, Gereon Krebber, Melissa Dubbin + Aaron S. Davidson, Sally Underwood, and Tom Woolner
The 'liner style' theatre foyers at Sadler's Wells will provide the setting for this installation inspired by the film The Poseidon Adventure. When the cruise ship Poseidon is turned upside down at sea, all but a handful of passengers survive and attempt to escape as the ship slowly disintegrates and sinks. During the six week installation, works from seven international and UK artists will break, rise and fall, sink, sign-off and sell-off resulting in a show that will be different every time it is viewed. Melissa Dubbin and Aaron S. Davidson
Last & Lost Transmissions, 2005 Two low-watt radio transmitters, collected audio, antennas, cables, metal, and plastic.
While many 'last transmissions' are associated with tragedies that cannot be re-versed, listening to these often heartbreaking broadcasts confuses one's desire for the truth with the helplessness of being a passive, second-hand recipient of the message. In turn, 'lost transmissions' is an attempt to counter that powerless feeling.
Dubbin and Davidson asked people to send voicemails, email messages or letters they've received that were intended for another person. Their naïve hope is that by re-broadcasting them, the messages may eventually be heard by the intended recipient.
