Frédéric Acquaviva is an experimental, self taught and independent french composer born in 1967 and living in Berlin, working mainly on voice, langage, sound as idea in the form of live spatialised concerts, or sound installations, chronopolyphonic installations…., records or editions, since 1990.

He has published numerous CDs with Al Dante or Casus Belli, been programmed in Museums (such as Weserburg Museum in Bremen, Centre Pompidou and Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Moderna Museet in Stockholm) or La Fenice in Venezia, art galleries (such as Peccolo Gallery in Livorno, Lara Vincy, Incognito and Archives in Paris, Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich) or underground venues (such as Les Voûtes and Le Donjon de Maîtress Cindy in Paris, The Rialto Mercato at Venezia, the Groix Island, the Hoxton Lounge and Kitchen in London, Vladicin Han Bridge, Serbia, Brio in New-York or in Iwana, Kenya).

He worked with major poets or artists such as Pierre Guyotat, Isidore Isou, Maurice Lemaître, Henri Chopin, Jean-Luc Parant, Maria Faustino, FJ Ossang, Marcel Hanoun and is currently working on several projects with english mezzo-soprano Loré Lixenberg.

Acquaviva is also known for having curated the first international major exhibition on the work of Gil Wolman at MACBA, Barcelona (2010-2011). He is an expert on sound poetry and Lettrisme, has realised the 3 and only historical lettrists Symphonies by Isou, Lemaître and Pomerand and in addition to his curatorial activities (exhibitions, films, editions, lectures, radiophonies) is also working on an ambitious Archives project in this field.

"Enthusiasm! The Dombass Symphony" (1930) is possibly Dziga Vertov's most revolutionary achievement: a symphony of abstract industrial noise for which a specially designed giant mobile recording system was constructed (it weighed over a ton) in order to capture the din of mines, furnaces and factories. For Vertov, the introduction of sound film didn't mean talkies, but the opportunity to collage, montage and splice together constructions of pure environmental noise. Denis Arkadievitch Kaufman (b. Bialyskov, Poland 1986 - d. Moscow 1954) adopted the name Dziga Vertov as an adolescent; a futurist pseudonym loosely translated as "spinning top". He studied piano, violin and psychoneurology, at the same time writing poetry and recording natural sounds with a phonograph for his Laboratory of Hearing (1916). By 1918, he had begun to work w ith cinema and - with his future wife Elisaveta Svilova - created the group Kinoks [Kino-Eye]. Concentrating on documentary films, they championed "what the eye doesn't see" . Between 1925 and 1929, he developed the idea of Radio-Pravda [Radio-Truth] and Radio-Ear (from "I hear").

"Nam June Paik: Global Visionary" opens Dec. 13 at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C. This show will tune in some of the Korean artists sound and video works. From the Smithsonian: "The artwork and ideas of the Korean-born artist Nam June Paik were a major influence on late twentieth-century art and continue to inspire a new generation of artists. "Nam June Paik: Global" Visionary offers an unprecedented view into the artist’s creative method by featuring key artworks that convey Paik’s extraordinary accomplishments as a major international artist as well as material drawn from the Nam June Paik Archive, which was acquired by the Smithsonian American Art Museum from the artist’s estate in 2009. The exhibition includes 67 artworks and more than 140 items from the Archive. Several rare artworks borrowed from private and public collections in the United States and abroad, including "TV Garden" (1974) from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, "Whitney Buddha Complex" (1982) from the Hessel Museum of Art at Bard College, and Paik’s rarely seen installation "Moon Projection with E Moon and Birds" (1996), on loan from the Paik Estate, are featured. Three exceptional artworks from the museum’s collection will be included: "Zen for TV" (1963/1976), "Megatron/Matrix" (1995), and "Electronic Superhighway: Continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii" (1995)."

Avalon Light Therapy, which uses a combination of blue red and infrared led lights to assist healing of the body, and homeopathy, are discussed with Dr. John Ritz. From Wikipedia: "Light therapy or phototherapy (classically referred to as heliotherapy) consists of exposure to daylight or to specific wavelengths of light using lasers, light-emitting diodes, fluorescent lamps, dichroic lamps or very bright, full-spectrum light, usually controlled with various devices. The light is administered for a prescribed amount of time and, in some cases, at a specific time of day. Common use of the term is associated with the treatment of skin disorders (chiefly psoriasis), sleep disorder and some psychiatric disorders. Light therapy directed at the skin is also used to treat acne vulgaris, eczema and neonatal jaundice. Light therapy which strikes the retina of the eyes is used to treat circadian rhythm disorders such as delayed sleep phase syndrome and can also be used to treat seasonal affective disorder, with some support for its use also with non-seasonal psychiatric disorders." "Don’t panic," a live performance by Chris Farmer in the Panik studio from Radio Panik (Brussels, Belgium) via the Radia network. "Radia" is a group of radio station seeking new and forgotten ways to make radio. Each week one station makes a show to share with all the others, including WGXC/free103point9. This show was a live perfomance by Chris Farmer in the Radio Panik studio, based on a previous work he did a few months ago for a german galery (Expo Berlin). The work he did in Berlin resulted in an improvised performance which was an electronic, harmonic and visual echo of the surrounding urban space. In Brussels, Chris farmer proposed to the Radio Panik listeners to recreate the poetic and harmonic experience of that particular urban landscape, which he recorded and translated with his sound recorder and coloured pencils. Living and working in Brussels, Belgium, Chris Famer is of vaguely British origin and a self-taught gardener, linguist, musician and artist who composes and improvises in all of these media. Since the early 1990s, he has gardened, translated and created his way through France, Belgium and the UK. His quest is to find poetry in noise and the botany of language, hoping to one day compile a formally chaotic and above all subjective monograph of the world that confronts him, and us, every day. Since an early age, Chris Farmer has been influenced, or obsessed, by song and sound, and especially how it can be transformed or dismantled, as seen in the works of Anthony Milton, Michael Gira, Richard Skelton. He currently experiments with the relation between languages, culture, sound, structure, horticulture and art, in various random combinations.

The Saturday before Christmas is sure to find the NYC airwaves full of carols, and Joshua Fried remixes the airwaves he receives in Brooklyn and sends them to the Hudson Valley in an all new form on this weekly show.

A landscape of scrapheap hills, rusty heavy-duty machinery, abandoned building sites sheltering engine cults’ followers. A constant metallic buzzing interferes with encoded technical transmissions and radio spectrum “white spaces” while, high above, floats a chaos of frequencies.

Two short wave radio broadcasters establish contact through these airwaves, their dialogue sent back to the listeners of the area who are unaware of such free-form vibrations coming from their speakers.

He writes, "Discussion with author/researcher/activist Amy Worthington, one of the first to write about details of the aerosol operations during the late 90s, sort of before most of us became aware. Recently, Worthington has written two very important well researched articles on the physiological hazards of the wireless age, specifically the effects to cellular structure and DNA from cell phone use . Her article "Generation X-Ray - Child victims of Technological Abuse, and Microwaves: The Radiation Poisoning of America" research and document the studies that you don't hear about in North America. The reality is that cellphone users in the U.S. and Canada have not been told the truth about the dangers of wireless radiation. Now as most are emotionally addicted to cell phones it could be more difficult to effectively impart this information. The first major snow storm of the winter in the Northeast United States is greeted with a special hour of live coverage, news updates, live snow sounds, and more. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch for the WGXC listening area, with 5-9″ of snow expected early Thursday morning. The snow likely begins after 5 p.m. Wednesday, possibly heavy at times Thursday morning, and turning to sleet and freezing rain Thursday. Some snow showers could linger Thursday evening. Rebroadcast. SnowFlow, a three-day collaboration Feb. 11-13 2011, at the Full Moon Resort in the heart of the Catskill Forest Preserve, brought together artists, activists, farmers, biologists, and organizations from all over NY and PA to raise awareness over the threats to our most vital natural resource - clean water. Informal conferencing took place at meals made from locally farmed food and with skiers at nearby Belleayre mountain. There was snowshoeing, snow shelter building, and a special, pure water inspired concert curated by Suzanne Thorpe of EMF and ISSUE Project Room.

The event was organized by Andrea Reynosa and Kevin Vertrees of SkyDog Projects with help from Erin Heaton and Bill Meyer of C-CARE. Selections from free103point9's "120 Hours of John Cage," presented Sept., 2012 with artists such as Gregory Whitehead, Damian Catera, Andrea-Jane Cornell, and others.

This is the legendary 1978 samizdat recording of "Audience," starring Václav Havel (1936-2011) as Vanek and Pavel Landovský as Sládek. It was recorded by folk singer Vladimír Merta in his Prague appartment in 1978 and published by the Šafrán label, ran from Upsalla, Sweden, by Czech exiles Jirí Pallas and Jaroslav Hutka, both signatories of the Charter 77. The LP was unofficially circulated in Czechoslovakia and many Czechs knew parts of the play by heart after 1978, despite the fact any Havel publication was banned in the country since the 1968 Soviet invasion. Havel himself was briefly imprisoned in 1978 and continuously from June 1979 to January 1984. This is a rare example of a record which proved dangerous for its authors, as well as for the entire Soviet system. Czech record company Bonton officially published the recording for the first time in 1990, soon after Havel became president of Czechoslovakia in December 1989. Václav Havel and Pavel Landovský in "Audience" (as it is titled in Czech) belongs to a trilogy of partly autobiographical one-act plays also known as the Vanek Trilogy, comprising Audience (1975), Protest (1978) and Mistake (1983), based on Havel’s experience of being forced to work in a brewery and under constant harassment from the Communist regime. Taking place in the brewery’s office, Audience is a meeting between the brewery’s manager Sládek and employee Vanek. While the manager is clearly opening too many beers and inducing into binge drinking, it is less clear what he wants from Vanek, though it ultimately transpires he has a deal to offer: a promotion agaisnt informations on Vanek’s political activities.

Legendary free jazz saxophonist David S. Ware died Thu., Oct. 18. We will play some of his most amazing moments. There is a memorial for him Jan. 7, 2013 in Manhattan.

"Ware's recorded debut was in 1971, on a privately-produced LP recorded by Abdul Hannah, an alto saxophonist from Boston. He went on to record with drummer Andrew Cyrille and pianist Cecil Taylor. In the late 1970s and early '80s Ware recorded more regularly as a bandleader, and formed his acclaimed quartet in the early 1990s. The quartet was originally composed of Ware, pianist Matthew Shipp, bassist William Parker and drummer Marc Edwards. The drum chair was later occupied by Whit Dickey, Susie Ibarra, and Guillermo E. Brown. The quartet released a string of well-reviewed albums mostly on small record labels, but saxophonist Branford Marsalis signed Ware to two-album deal with Columbia Records in the late '90s.[2] Ware dissolved the quartet in about 2007, after the release of the album Renunciation. He has since recorded albums for solo saxophone, and with several different supporting bands. Suffering from kidney disease, Ware was able to undergo a successful kidney transplantation at the age of 60, after receiving a kidney donated in response to an email message sent out to nearly 1,000 of Ware's fans." He was 62.

Following 2012′s reissue of “The Disintegration Loops,” now Auris Apothecary has reissued William Basinski’s debut album, “Shortwavemusic.” The record was recorded in New York in 1982, and first released by Raster-Noton in 1998. For the 30th anniversary of “Shortwavemusic” the label created a reel-to-reel version of the project for a Jan. 1 release. They’ve also made the music free and streamable online, and this show will tune it in. Then: "In 1966, then General Manager for KPFK Los Angeles 90.7fm Paul V. Dallas decided to turn to the 24 hour fundraising Marathon technique to raise money for the stations operating expenses. Here is a 5 minute clip from September 13 1966 of a young Pre-Firesign Theatre Peter Bergman and Paul Robbins as they hosted phone calls in their own unique counter-culture way during KPFK's first Marathon fundrive. In the second clip then General Manager Paul V. Dallas speaks to the audience about the program Radio Free Oz after it's first 8 weeks on the air. KPFK was hit with a barrage of letters in support and against this Free Form Radio experiment hosted by Peter Bergman and Paul Robbins. Also included in this show is Dymaxion's "Chase Scene/Transistor Radio," John Ashberry's "Rivers and Mountains" from 1963, and Venus Flytrap from "WKRP in Cincinatti" explaining the atom."

Joel Chadabe, composer, author, is an internationally recognized pioneer in the development of interactive music systems. He has concertized widely since 1969. As president of Intelligent Music from 1983-1994, he was responsible for the development and publication of a wide range of innovative and historically important software, including M and Max. As author, his book 'Electric Sound: The Past and Promise of Electronic Music', published by Prentice Hall in November 1996, was the first comprehensive overview of the history of electronic music. His articles on electronic music have appeared in respected journals and publications internationally. Chadabe is currently Professor Emeritus at State University of New York at Albany; Visiting Faculty at New York University; and Founder and President of Electronic Music Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that organizes concerts and other events and disseminates information and materials relating to the history and current practice of electronic music.

In 1971, former Iranian dictator Muhammad Reza Shah hosted a lavish and highly choreographed event amidst the ruins of the ancient Persian capital of Persepolis in order to celebrate the 2500th anniversary of Iran's founding by Cyrus The Great. The Shah commissioned Greek composer and computer music pioneer Iannis Xenakis (1922-2001) to write a piece of music exalting ancient Persia's aristocratic pre-Islamic religious culture.
