The Register Star is reporting the annual Victoria A. Simons Locavore Award has been expanded to include three winners this year. The award recognizes outstanding vision and accomplishment for increasing the availability, quantity, quality or distribution of local foods. Chefs, caterers, farms, and organizations and individuals involved with local food sourcing are eligible for the $1,000 award. Winners are announced at the Columbia County Fair on Labor Day. The deadline for nominations is July 31. The award recognizes Vicki Simons, long-time editor of The Independent newspaper, executive director of Columbia County Bounty and proponent of many causes targeting community improvement.
