Mar 17, 2018 12:05 am
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced March 16 that the New York State Police and local law enforcement will increase sobriety checkpoints, and add additional DWI patrols, and stings targeting underage drinking and illegal sales of alcohol to minors over the St. Patrick's Day weekend. The extra attention to possible drunk driving continues through March 18. State Police will also be looking for distracted drivers using handheld electronic devices. Last year over the St. Patrick's Day weekend enforcement effort, Troopers made 229 arrests for DWI and issued nearly 15,000 tickets. Local law enforcement agencies made 65 DWI/DWAI arrests, three DWAI-Drug only arrests, 76 other arrests, and gave out 972 vehicle and traffic summonses.
