Dieter Kovačič is an Austrian artist and improviser, known for performing under a variety of aliases including dieb13, dieb14, Takeshi Fumimoto, Echelon, and Dieter Bohlen. Originally exposed to expanded music through the DJ culture, he has worked with augmented turntables, cassette tape players, and computers since the early 1980s, and has played over 500 shows in both groups and solo. Kovačič is a self-described “conscientious copyright-objector,” and promotes both the use of appropriated materials in his artwork and for his work to be freely distributed. He is also a filmmaker and score composer, often working in collaboration with his partner Billy Roisz.
