Brush fire claims acre of land in Hillsdale

Roger Hannigan Gilson is reporting in the Register-Star a brush fire burned approximately one acre of land on Lockwood Road in Hillsdale, Mon., Aug. 29. A nearby house was not touched. Craryville Fire Chief William Baker said the structure was never in any real danger. Baker said his department was dispatched just before 1 p.m., and the fire was out less than 30 minutes later. No one was injured in the incident, which remained under investigation as of late Monday afternoon. August is late in the season for brush fires; most brush fires happen from mid-March through mid-May, according to the National Weather Service in Albany. Read the full story in the Register-Star.
