Victoria Addison is reporting in the Register-Star the Ichabod Crane Board of Education announced Thu., Feb. 23, it will appoint Michael Vanyo as the district's next superintendent. The formal vote will be taken at the board's next meeting on March 7. Vanyo has 26 years of experience in public education. He is currently superintendent of the Gloversville Central School District. Prior to that, he served as superintendent of the Liberty School District in Sullivan County for five years. "I consider Ichabod Crane to be one of the premier school districts in our region," Vanyo said. "It is my goal to work with the faculty, staff and Board of Education to strive for higher student results while providing a well-rounded learning experience for our students." Vanyo has a background in school finance, having worked as a business administrator for various districts and as a state aid and financial planning specialist for Questar III BOCES. He started his career as a high school business teacher. Board president Anthony Welcome said Vanyo was the board's unanimous choice for the job. "He brings extensive, hands-on experience in improving graduation rates, implementing new programs, developing fiscally sound budgets and overseeing needed capital improvements," Welcome said. Vanyo will replace George Zini in the district's top spot. Zini announced last summer that he would leave the district at the end of the current school year.
