Faso decries Trump tariffs

Jun 01, 2018 12:18 pm
The Associated Press reported in The Daily Freeman that Rep. John Faso (R-Kinderhook) does not agree with the Trump administration's latest tariffs on steel and aluminum from Europe, Mexico, and Canada. Faso called the tariffs “short-sighted” and bad for the U.S. economy. Stock prices fell about 250 points on the news of the administration heating up trade wars with friendly countries. According to the Congressperson, the tariffs, “are going to hurt small manufacturers and their workers by raising the cost of their goods.... I’ve visited numerous businesses across the [state’s 19th Congressional] District that make products such as aluminum window frames, aerospace components, outdoor furniture parts, and specialty metal components. All of these businesses will be harmed by the actions taken today.... This is a short-sighted action which will hurt our economy and sow chaos among our allies and American manufacturers,” Faso said.
