Trump tells upstate New Yorkers to move

Feb 07, 2019 12:23 am
Jerry Zremski reports for The Buffalo News that New Yorkers worried about a bad economy upstate should not blame him, the President thinks they should just leave. "If New York isn’t gonna treat them better, I would recommend they go to another state where they can get a great job,” Trump said Feb. 6. In August of 2016 he made a similar statement. "I love those people," Trump said of residents upstate this time. "Those people are my voters. They’ve been treated very badly." He did say that some people have been telling him that his tax bill, which capped deductions on state and local taxes, has hurt New York. "There are some people talking to me about this," he said. "I’m open to thinking about that." Gov. Andrew Cuomo's senior advisor Richard Azzopardi retorted, "Let's be real: ‎Trump started an economic civil war between blue states and red states in order to give tax cuts to millionaires and corporations in Republican states.... No one will forget the utter contempt he has shown for his fellow New Yorkers, nor will they believe his empty rhetoric to help fix what he broke." Read the full story in The Buffalo News.
