Cornell students to collect data for use in update of Catskill comprehensive plan

Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media students from Cornell University are coming to Catskill to assess the area and provide information that will be used for the town's new comprehensive plan. Approximately a dozen graduate and undergraduate students from Cornell's city and regional planning department will collect data on October 5 and 6. That information will eventually be compiled into a report and delivered to the town in December. The project is being undertaken in conjunction with the Hudson River Estuary Program. Catskill Town Supervisor Doreen Davis said, “It’s an extraordinary opportunity to have this level of expertise and not have to budget for it.” The town board made an informal commitment to review the comprehensive plan in February and applied for a state Department of Environmental Conservation Community Smart Growth grant in June to help with the process.
