Officials say cannabis stores will open in 2022
Kate Lisa reports for Spectrum News that New York's first cannabis crop is coming in now, and officials say it is large enough for the retail stores opening later this year. "We know now, having toured the state, that the crop will be ready, that it will be high-quality, that it will be sun-grown," Office of Cannabis Management Executive Director Chris Alexander said Friday. "And before the end of the year, we'll have some of our dispensaries open." That's all state officials will say about the opening, that it will happen sometime in 2022. Gov. Kathy Hochul has also said about 20 dispensaries will open each month after the initial launch. "We can't be more specific than that," Alexander said. "It will be in a rolling wave, though. We'll have them keep coming online as they continue to be secured and built out." Meanwhile, nationally President Joe Biden is asking for a review of how marijuana is viewed under federal drug laws.
