McCoy signs Albany County Clean Air Act
Sep 11, 2020 2:06 pm
Michael Hallisey reports for Spotlight News that Albany County Executive Dan McCoy signed the county's Clean Air Act into effect on Sept. 10. The law stops new waste facilities, and two businesses on either end of the county, from burning waste products. The LafargeHolcim cement plant in Ravena had received a DEC permit to burn tires, and Norlite in Cohoes was already burning firefighter foam with the carcinogenic PFOA and PFOS chemical compounds. Now that toxic smoke won't be allowed in the county. The Albany County Legislature passed the bill by a 32 to 7 vote last month. Read more about this story at the Spotlight News website.
