Crime rate down in Hudson, Catskill

Oct 14, 2016 12:30 pm

Roger Hannigan Gilson is reporting in the Register-Star crime rates in the city of Hudson decreased last year. Violent crime fell more than 10 percent, while property crime dropped by more than 30 percent, according to data compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The city's 2015 violent crime rate was lower than the average both state- and nationwide, the first time since 2008. Hudson Police Chief Edward Moore said his department could not take credit for the drop in the crime rate. He said, "I’ve always thought that crime is driven by many different factors, the biggest of which is socio-economic." The village of Catskill’s violent crime rate was even lower than Hudson’s, but the property crime rate is higher in Catskill, according to the statistics. Village police chief Dave Darling said there were seasonal variations in crime, but he said crime in the village went down overall. "Other than drug activity. I don’t think heroin is going anywhere," he said. Read the full story in the Register-Star.
