Dan Freedman reports in the Times Union that Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is back at work after her time on the campaign trail, mostly in Iowa and New Hampshire. “I feel very blessed by the opportunity to run for president,” she said on a conference call Oct. 8 promoting her Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act for paid family leave. “I learned a lot that I can apply to my job in the U.S. Senate.” Two bills she sponsored got passed while she was campaigning: One increasing the federal fund for workers at the World Trade Center after Sept. 11, 2001; and a second expanding veterans benefits for the “Blue Water Navy” sailors that battled on the coastline and inland water ways in Vietnam. Gillibrand is now traveling around the state, including a stop in Albany on Oct. 10. Read more about this story in the Times Union.
