Unemployment down in the Twin Counties

Tom Casey reports in the Register Star unemployment is down in Columbia and Greene counties for the second month in a row, according to the state Department of Labor. Data released by the department Tues., May 22, indicate the number of unemployed in Columbia County decreased from 2,300 to 2,200 in April, an unemployment rate of 7.2 percent. The rate in Greene County dropped .2 percent, to 9.4 percent, between March and April. Although Greene County saw a decrease in its jobless numbers, the rate is still higher than its April 2011 rate of 8.6 percent. The county's current rate exceeds both the state (8.7 percent) and national (7.4 percent) rates of unemployment. Read the full story in the Register Star.
