Andrew Cuomo met with the president-elect at Trump Tower Jan. 18, and discussed what happens to New York without a federal health care law, and potential infrastructure spending. “Basically the conversation was about both the opportunities for the state of New York and the needs of the state of New York while the president-elect is going down to hear about the federal policies,” said Cuomo in the lobby after the hour-long meeting. The Cuomo administration estimates that losing the health care law would create a $3.7 billion deficit in the state budget and leave some 2.7 million New Yorkers without health insurance. Cuomo didn't say if the president-elect would address that problem, but was more optimistic about infrastructure spending. “If he wants to put money to use and put federal money to use quickly, this is the state to do it," Cuomo said. The governor won't attend the inauguration, he said. Cuomo also said he does not plan to attend Friday’s inauguration in Washington. The Post reported in December that Cuomo, a Clinton surrogate, purchased a block of rooms in Washington for the inauguration, but offered them to the state Republican Party following Trump’s victory.
