Brian Nearing is reporting in the Times Union local paving company L. Crowe Asphalt Company wants to build a new plant on more than 10 acres of land located on Sun Oil Road in East Greenbush. The East Greenbush Planning Board this month gave the project environmental clearance. The 40-year-old company intends to build a plant that will operate on either natural gas or fuel oil. It could produce up to 300,000 tons of asphalt annually using natural gas, and 50,000 tons annually using fuel oil. The state Department of Environmental Conservation has issued a draft air pollution permit for the project, which will be located on land zoned for industrial use. The nearest homes are approximately 550 feet away. Browe estimates that 44 trucks could be coming and going from the facility during the peak morning hours, and about half as many trucks during the afternoon. The facility's pollution control equipment is expected to remove 99.9 percent of particulate matter from plant emissions, according to the company. Read the full story in the Times Union.
