May 12, 2017 12:05 am
The Hudson City Democratic Committee and chair Michael Chameides announced its endorsements for fall elections on May 11. The committee endorsed Rick Rector for mayor and incumbent treasurer Heather S. Campbell in city-wide votes. The Hudson City Democratic Committee also endorsed Sarah Sterling in the First Ward; Chameides in the Third Ward; William Hughes, Jr in the Fourth Ward; and Richard E. Scalera in the Fifth Ward, for county supervisor. For Common Council, they endorsed Kamal Johnson in the First Ward, Shershah Mizan and Calvin Lewis in the Third Ward, Jonathan Rosenthal in the Fourth Ward, and Eileen Halloran and Dominic Merante for alderperson. The Democrats did not endorse Second Ward or Common Council president races. Second Ward Alderman Tiffany Garriga announced May 8 that she will run for Common Council President while incumbent president, Republican Claudia DeStefano, said right now she is not planning to run for re-election, but "...it's kind of early to tell." Full disclosure: Johnson is a co-host on the Wednesday edition of the "WGXC Afternoon Show."
