Athens village appoints new dog park custodian

Daniel Zuckerman is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Athens Bunker Hill Dog Park, located on Union Street, has a new custodian. Gertie Mae Czarnecki, of Athens, was unanimously affirmed by the village board May 9, to replace Kelly Raver of Coxsackie. Raver stepped down in mid-April. Village Trustee Shannon Spinner nominated Czarnecki, a recently graduated nursing student. “The dog park is a wonderful aspect for our community and I am more than happy to do my part to help maintain this resource,” Czarnecki wrote in her letter of interest to the board. “I appreciate this opportunity to serve the village I care so much about.” Czarnecki hopes to have animal trainers host a clinic at the park in the fall to promote dog ownership and training.
