Governor announces $26M for affordable homeownership

Dec 14, 2017 7:30 am

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo last week announced the availability of $26 million for the state's Affordable Home Ownership Development Program. The funds awarded through this program go to municipalities, municipal housing authorities and other non-profits that development affordable housing or help income-eligible homeowners with funding for necessary home repairs. The grants can be used to make improvements to existing owner-occupied single or multi-family homes, condos or cooperatives, or to build new owner-occupied homes for sale. The program provides up to $40,000 per home. Funds are administered by the state Affordable Housing Corporation, which is part of New York State Homes and Community Renewal. Since 2011, the corporation has awarded nearly $198 million to create or improve more than 10,400 homes. Applications are due February 16, 2018.
