Veterans ceremonies to be held in Greene, Columbia counties Wednesday

Bill Williams is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Veterans Day will be observed Wed., Nov.11, in many communities across Columbia and Greene counties. 
• The Veterans Day ceremony in Catskill will take place at the town cemetery, in Jefferson Heights, beginning at 11 a.m. 

 • Two events are part of the salute to veterans in the Greenville area. At 10 a.m., the annual church service will be held at South Westerlo Church on Route 405, followed by the veterans’ ceremony at the pond on Route 32 in Greenville, at 11 a.m., at the gazebo.
 
 • A veterans’ service hosted by the Palenville Fire Department and Auxiliary will take place at 11 a.m. at the Palenville firehouse on Route 32A.
 
 • Cairo Post 983 and Coxsackie Post 166 will forego their annual ceremonies due to COVID-19. 

 • Hudson American Legion Post 184 and Hudson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5791 will limit their observances this year due to COVID-19. The annual parade is canceled. Instead, a small ceremony will take place at the veteran’s monument in Hudson's Seventh Street Park at 11 a.m. 

 • Philmont American Legion Post 252 will hold ceremonies at Memorial Park on Main Street at 11 a.m. 

 • In Valatie, the annual ceremony begins at 11 a.m. American Legion Post 47 will hold ceremonies in Veteran’s Square on Church Street in Kinderhook. 

 • For the first time in 30 years, a Veterans Day ceremony will take place in the town of Canaan. A wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the veteran’s marker, at the intersection of Route 295 and county Route 5., beginning at 2 p.m. 

 • Chatham American Legion Post 42 and Ghent VFW Post 5933 will, weather permitting, hold a veteran’s automobile parade leaving their post on Woodbridge Avenue in Chatham at 10:30 a.m. Ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m., rain or shine, from the gazebo on the village green. 

 • American Legion Post 346 in Germantown will hold three small ceremonies and present American flags to supervisors of the three towns they serve. Ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. at Livingston Town Hall; at 10:30 a.m. at Clermont Town Hall;  and, at 11 a.m. at the veteran’s monument at the Anchorage Boat Launch in Germantown. 

 • Stuyvesant Falls will hold a small ceremony, for members only, at 11 a.m. at VFW Post 9593.
