Cairo-Durham board votes to close Durham school

Audrey Matott is reporting in The Daily Mail following years of deliberation, the Cairo-Durham Central Board of Education voted Thurs., Apr. 24, to close Durham Elementary School on a vote of six to two. Board President Susan Kusminsky and board member Beth Daly voted against the closure; Elizabeth Phillips was not present. Following the vote to close the school there was significant applause and even a “thank you” was called out from the crowd. Emotions were torn among the community and the board.
