Barnwell nursing facility sold, to be renamed, get staffing upgrades

Bill Williams is reporting for WCTW-FM, "The Cat," Barnwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, located on Church Street in Valatie, has been sold. The Grand Healthcare System announced December 11, it had purchased the 236-bed facility from Cassena Care, of Woodbury, New York, for an undisclosed sum. The facility provides rehabilitation and nursing services to patients, both a short- and long-term, following hospitalization. The 236-bed care center will be renamed The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell, joining similar facilities in Queens, Pawling, Poughkeepsie, Chittenango and Rome. Barnwell was founded in 1940 and in addition to rehabilitation and nursing services, it also operates a 44-person adult daycare center. The facility currently employs 400 people and the new owner intends to add additional staff, including dietary aides, certified nursing assistants, licensed nurses, registered nurses and registered practical nurses.
