Orange Co. housing ICE detainees once again

MidHudsonNews [dot] com is reporting Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois has announced he has resumed the practice of holding people detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the Orange County Jail. DuBois suspended the acceptance of those individuals as well as those from the US Marshal’s Services when COVID-19 hit earlier this year. “We were lucky enough that we had no cases at all in the jail, but now that things seem to have subsided, we are going to return to taking ICE prisoners and Marshal’s Services prisoners, obviously with screening and quarantining,” he said. DuBois said his office has been screening and quarantining all along those committed through the local courts. The temporary holding of people detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the jail has meant millions of dollars in annual income for the county.
