Nathan Mayberg reports in the Register Star the Columbia County Board of Supervisors gave the go-ahead to making an offer on 15 acres of land in Ghent. The action is part of a plan to expand the Columbia County Airport, located on Route 9H, four miles east of Hudson. The land to be purchased is located directly adjacent to the airport. The full board approved an offer of $629,000. The county will be reimbursed for the purchase by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The purchase of the property could mean the clearing of more than 130 trees to meet FAA standards that govern potential obstruction to airport runways. Two ponds may also be filled in.
