Spring turkey season begins May 1

Paul Kirby is reporting for the Daily Freeman the state Department of Environmental Conservation has announced that spring turkey hunting season will begin Wed., May 1, in upstate New York north of the Bronx-Westchester County boundary. In addition, the DEC's annual turkey hunt for junior hunters, ages 12 to 15, will take place April 20 and 21. The hunt is open in all of upstate New York and Suffolk County. Turkey hunters killed an estimated 19,000 birds in New York during last year's spring season. According to the DEC, poor turkey reproductive success in summer 2017 may mean that hunters see fewer adult birds this spring compared to last. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
