Gillibrand drops presidential campaign

Aug 29, 2019 12:21 am
Alexander Burns reports in The New York Times that New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand dropped her campaign to win the Democratic nomination for president on Aug. 28. The announcement came after she failed to receive sufficient support in polls to qualify for a debate next month. Gillibrand made the announcement on social media. (PLAY OR DOWNLOAD BRIEF EXCERPT OF GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCEMENT HERE) Gillibrand said she would endorse another candidate in the primary but, like many other voters, had not made her choice at this time. Since the Senate does not do much work, an April 17 Associated Press story said Gillibrand had only missed three votes at that point in the year because of her campaigning in Iowa and New Hampshire.
