Gillibrand drops presidential campaign

Alexander Burns reports in The New York Times that New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand dropped her campaign to win the Democratic nomination for president on Aug. 28. The announcement came after she failed to receive sufficient support in polls to qualify for a debate next month. Gillibrand made the announcement on social media. Since the Senate does not do much work, an April 17 Associated Press story said Gillibrand had only missed three votes at that point in the year because of her campaigning in Iowa and New Hampshire.
