Columbia Co. declares state of emergency following water main break

Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media residents of Ghent and the village of Chatham are being asked to limit their water usage following a major water main break in Chatham village, September 9. According to a statement released by Chatham Mayor John Howe, there is "...no water to Edgewood Acres and limited water to the rest of the village of Ghent." A boil water advisory also is in effect, according to the Chatham Fire Department. Columbia County officials issued a state of emergency beginning 10 a.m. Monday, continuing through Friday. County Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Murell has directed the appropriate county departments and agencies to take the necessary steps to "protect life and property, public infrastructure and provide emergency assistance as deemed necessary," according to the State of Emergency order.
