Bill Williams is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media an electrical fire early Sun., Oct. 17, led to the evacuation of some residents from the third floor of The Pines at Catskill Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Catskill, Fire Chief John Holt said. There were no injuries to the residents of The Pines, fire officials said. Catskill Fire Company was sent to 154 Jefferson Heights by Greene County 911, after receiving reports of smoke in one of the rooms and adjoining hallway on the third floor, as well as an odor of burning. Staff issued a code red and then moved residents from the affected area to another wing of the floor, past the next set of fire doors, fire officials said. A request for mutual aid brought Athens and Hudson fire departments to the scene. Catskill firefighters traced the source of the fire to a bad electrical outlet in a resident’s room, Holt said, and firefighters opened the wall and removed the outlet. “The staff accomplished a huge component of this operation. Your training paid off today,” Holt said. Town of Catskill Ambulance helped at the scene. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
