Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Catskill's 14th annual Parade of Lights will go on as planned Fri., Nov. 27, despite the ongoing pandemic. The parade is sponsored by the Catskill Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Lineup will start at 6 p.m. on Water Street and the parade will begin at 7 p.m., proceeding down Main Street, over the Uncle Sam Bridge, ending at Broome Street. “With everything that’s been going on, we thought that the Parade of Lights would lift everyone’s spirits,” parade organizer Pam Wright said. A total of 41 units will take part in the event, and Santa Claus is expected to attend, Wright said. Attendees are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing. There will be no formal tree lighting; the village Christmas tree is already up and the lights are on. An event featuring picture-taking with Santa will happen at Joe's Garage on Main Street after the parade. The town of Cairo will hold its light parade on November 28, and Coxsackie plans to hold its light parade on December 4. The Athens Victorian Stroll and Christmas by the River in Coxsackie have been canceled. Winter Walk in Hudson this year will last from December 2 to December 24, instead of falling on one day.
