Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media a recreational vehicle campground, Tiny Tines, may be coming to Catskill next year. The proposed 60-site campground would be located on Cairo Junction Road, and must comply with the new campground law passed by the Catskill Town Board earlier this month. Patrick Prendergast, the engineer for the project, presented a revised site plan to the planning board September 26. Prendergast said the idea is a new take on traditional camping. “The RV units are already there,” he said. “It’s a back-to-nature type of thing.” Catskill Planning Board Chairman Joseph Izzo said concerns about the visual impact of the project, trespassing, noise, lights, flooding and trafffic have been expressed. To help address the concerns, Prendergast will add gates on trails that link the campground to adjacent properties and have signs posted on the property to discourage hunting and fishing. In response to a query from the planning board, the state Department of Transportation expressed no concerns about traffic and the intersection with state Route 23. “If there is an issue with the county, a traffic study can be requested,” Izzo said. There are environmental issues, including the impact of the project on the creek and the wildlife in a protected wetland. According to the environmental assessment form, a little more than four of the property's 104 acres will be disturbed by the project. But the creek may flood during periods of high rainfall, said Kevin Schwenzfeier, a consultant from Delaware Engineering. And the sewer system must properly treat wastewater before it can be discharged. The project plans will now be submitted to Greene County for review.
