Cuomo signs Nonprofit Revitalization Act

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo Wed., Dec. 18, signed into law the Nonprofit Revitalization Act. According to a statement released by Attorney General Eric T. Scheiderman, the legislation "includes substantial reforms that will cut red tape while enhancing governance and oversight of nonprofits." Doug Sauer, the Chief Executive Officer of the New York Council of Nonprofits congratulated everyone involved in passage of the Act, noting the new law represented "significant and much needed reform." Under the new law, nonprofit governance and oversight has been increased to prevent fraud, and also includes various measures to significantly reduce unnecessary and outdated burdens on nonprofits.
