May 06, 2020 5:30 am
Cayla Harris is reporting for the Times Union state Sen. James Tedisco is calling on Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to allow high school seniors to celebrate their graduation at drive-in movie theaters. Tedisco, a Republican from Glenville, Schenectady County, sent Cuomo a letter May 4, encouraging him to issue an executive order permitting the practice. Students and their families would remain in their vehicles and watch pre-taped videos featuring speeches from school officials, teachers and students, he said. The Malta Drive-In Theatre in Saratoga County has already offered its facility for graduations. Under the proposal, each school district would work with municipalities and drive-in theaters to organize ceremonies, Tedisco said. Students would then receive their diplomas in the mail. The governor's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Read the full story in the Times Union.
