Hudson BoE renames and closes schools, selects new VP

Jul 16, 2018 2:30 pm
Jeanette Wolfberg is reporting for The Columbia Paper the Hudson Board of Education renamed a school, voted Willette Jones its new vice president, and more, at its organizational meeting, July 2. The board officially amended the name of Montgomery C. Smith Intermediate School to Montgomery C. Smith Elementary School, as of July 1. That school now houses pre-kindergarten through 5th grade. The board also made the closing of John L. Edwards Primary School official, effective July 1. Summer programs scheduled for JLE’s grounds will still take place. “We still own the building. It’s just not a school,” said Superintendent Maria L. Suttmeier. Incumbent board president Carrie Otty was re-elected, and Jones was voted board vice president. Jones has been a member of the board since 2016. She is a 1998 graduate of Hudson High School, and her four children have been educated in the Hudson school district, as well. Jones replaced Maria McLaughlin as vice president. McLaughlin remains a member of the board. The Hudson Board of Education will next meet, 6:30 p.m., Mon., Jul. 23, in the junior high school library.
