A false alarm phoned in to the New York State Police station in Cairo triggered a security lockout at Cairo Elementary early Wed., Mar. 20. The incident was not school related, a state police spokesperson said. Shortly after 9 a.m., a caller to 911 reported seeing an individual carrying a weapon on Main Street in Cairo. The school was notified and a sheriff's deputy was posted at the front door of the school at 9:20 a.m. By 9:50 a.m., police confirmed the report was false and the lockout ended.
