Region's unemployment rates increase slightly
The Daily Freeman is reporting county unemployment rates in the Mid-Hudson Valley and Catskills were generally higher in June from what they were the month before and much lower than the rates of June 2021, the state Department of Labor reported July 26. The June 2022 unemployment rate in Greene County was 3.3 percent, up from 3.1 percent in May and down from 5.2 percent in June 2021. In Columbia County the jobless rate decreased from 3.1 percent in May to 2.6 percent in June, and down from 4 percent the year before. In other parts of the region, according to the state labor office, jobless rates in June 2022 were:
• 3.1 percent in Ulster County, up from 2.8 percent in May and down from 5 percent in June 2021.
• 3.1 percent in Dutchess County, up from 2.8 percent in May and down from 4.9 percent in June 2021.
• 3.2 percent in Orange County, up from 3.2 percent in May and down from 5.2 percent in June 2021.
• 3 percent in Sullivan County, unchanged from May and down from 5.2 percent in June 2021.
• 3.5 percent in Delaware County, the same as in May and down from 5 percent in June 2021.
The state’s highest jobless rate in June was 8.4 percent in the Bronx. The lowest rate was 2.6 percent in Saratoga, Yates and Columbia counties. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
