State lawmakers approve Toll Payer Protect Act

The Associated Press is reporting the state Legislature has approved a bill designed to protect drivers from being improperly billed by New York’s cashless tolling system. An amended Toll Payer Protect Act was passed by the Senate this week, at the close of the 2018 legislative session. The legislation would ensure that drivers receive their cashless tolling bills by mail within 30 days. It also requires tolling entities to create a website where people can pay toll bills online. The measure now goes to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s desk. The entire 570-mile Thruway system is expected to have cashless tolling by the end of 2020. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
