New Year's hikes at state parks

The Daily Freeman reports that several local state parks are hosting "First Day Hikes" Jan. 1. The Olana State Historic Site in Hudson, and Taconic State Park in Copake Falls are among the parks with New Year's hikes. At Olana State Historic Site, the 1.5-mile walk begins at 11 a.m. along Ridge Road. To register for the hike, visit www.olana.org/calendar. At Taconic State Park, the hike begins at 1 p.m. along the Ironworks Heritage Trail from the park headquarters to the Iron Works and Bash Bish Falls and back. Hot chocolate, and snacks follow the hike. The park headquarters is located at 253 state Route 344, Copake Falls. Read the full story in The Daily Freeman.
