Jun 22, 2018 2:10 pm
Diane Valden reports in The Columbia Paper that while the Columbia County Board of Supervisors passed a law dated June 14 making it illegal to buy, sell, or possess fireworks in the county, the United Way of Columbia and Greene Counties is selling them just across the Hudson River. Columbia County said they, “pose a significant risk to public safety.” But, "My job is to raise money, I’d wash peoples’ feet if I had to,” said United Way of Columbia and Greene Counties Executive Director Brad Poster. The charity raises money to address the 39 percent of the population of Columbia County and 41 percent of Greene County living at or below the poverty level. Columbia County Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Murell told The Columbia Paper that while fireworks “are dangerous and cause fires.... We’re not having any roadblocks.” Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
