Local governments can now be fined for not enforcing mask, social distancing requirements

Nick Reisman is reporting for State of Politics Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's administration announced October 2, plans to aggressively go after local governments that fail to enforce mask-wearing guidelines. Failing to do so will result in $10,000 in daily fines, Cuomo said. The state Department of Health will issue an order creating a framework for reporting mask enforcement efforts. Failing to enforce mask wearing as well as social distancing and capacity limits will result in punishment for the local governments.
