Members of Congress call on U.S., Canada to develop plan to reopen the border

Spectrum News is reporting state and local leaders are coming together to urge the United States and Canada to develop a plan for a phased reopening of the border. Since March, four agreements have extended the border closure. The latest moved it back to July 21. Under that order, only essential travel is allowed. A letter from 29 members of Congress requested the two countries craft a complete framework for a phased reopening. The officials also want consideration of interim measures that would ease restrictions on family members and property owners. The letter was sent to the acting secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Canadian Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.
