A month later, Van De Water now says he won't run for Congress
The Daily Freeman reports that Republican Kyle Van De Water is not going to run for Congress again after all. On July 12 Van De Water said he would attempt to challenge Democrat Antonio Delgado again for the 19th Congressional District seat. Delgado beat Van De Water by 56 percent to 44 percent in the 2020 election. "Circumstances in my life have changed and I am no longer able to give 110 percent towards this endeavor,” Van De Water, an attorney and a major in the U.S. Army Reserves JAG Corps, said in a statement Aug. 27. “For the good of the party, and the district, I have decided to withdraw my candidacy.” The unknown redistricting might not have played a factor, as Delgado and Van De Water live in the nearly neighboring Dutchess County towns of Rhinebeck and Millbrook, respectively. So if the 19th Congressional District is split, and stays on the east side of the Hudson River, both would still be running in the same area. Read more about this story in the Daily Freeman.
