Columbia Co. cell phone tax delayed

Nathan Mayberg reports in the Register Star a proposal to add a new surcharge on all mobile devices in Columbia County has stalled. The discussion was put off after members of the county Board of Supervisors disagreed over the amount to be charged. The proposed 30-cent-per-month tax would apply to all mobile devices, including cell phones and iPads. The new surcharge was put forward by county officials to help make up for declining revenue from a surcharge on landlines, in order to pay for the expenses of the county 911 office.
