Greene County collecting data on solar projects, laws
Oct 23, 2019 2:15 pm
Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Greene County officials are in the process of compiling data on local solar projects, deputy county administrator Warren Hart said. The Economic Development, Tourism and Planning Department is reaching out to municipalities to learn about ongoing solar projects and local solar laws. The collected information, along with state guidelines, will be made available to the public on the planning department’s webpage. “We will be collecting model ordinances with the intent of communicating back to municipalities,” Hart said. Nine towns in Greene County have local solar laws, but none of the villages do and the town of Hunter currently has a moratorium on solar projects in place, Hart said. A list of PILOTs, or payments in lieu of taxes, countywide will also be included in the database. Hart believes the inventory will help municipalities when evaluating solar projects. He expects the county will upload the compiled data in early November to greenegovernment [dot] com. The website will be updated on a regular basis thereafter, Hart said.
