Kolb arrested for DWI in state-issued car

Rochester First reports that the Republican minority leader of the state assembly, Brian Kolb, was arrested for driving while intoxicated on New Year's Eve with a blood-alcohol level over .08 percent. The arrest came after Kolb released a Christmas Eve essay asking for safe, sober driving during the holiday season. Kolb crashed the 2018 GMC Acadia worth $43,601 that taxpayers bought the Assemblymember in his driveway. The arrest was the first all year of any state legislator. Republicans have been denouncing new bail laws that go into effect in New York on Jan. 1; Kolb was released from custody. "This was a terrible lapse in judgment, one I have urged others not to make, and I take full responsibility for it," Kolb said in a statement. One Republican, Kieran Michael Lalor, Assemblyperson of the 105th District in Dutchess County, called for Kolb to step down from his leadership position. Read more about this story at Rochester First.
