Shortage of volunteer EMTs on mountaintop

Dec 02, 2014 7:12 am
Max Oppen is reporting in The Daily Mail the town of Hunter is in need of volunteer emergency medical technicians, according to comments recently made by town councilman Dolph Semenza. He believes most towns in Greene Co. are experiencing the same challenge. "Many [volunteers] have other jobs, and don't have the time," he said. The town of Hunter currently has two ambulances and two full-time EMTs. Semenza said full-time EMTs are paid hourly based on a 40-hour week. The full-time employees are supported by volunteers who are paid stand-by and shift pay. Volunteers are asked to work a minimum of two shifts per month. The town now has eight active volunteers, but increasing that number to 12 would cover the ambulance squad, Semenza said. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
