Bill would require agencies to plan for pandemic second wave

Nick Reisman is reporting for State of Politics U.S. Rep. John Katko has sponsored the COVID PREPARE Act, a measure that would require federal agencies to develop plans for responding to a potential second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Those plans would include measurable goals, the challenges anticipated and how they would consult with Congress. The plans would have to be submitted to Congress. The proposal comes as cases in New York have subsided overall, but the number of cases in the western and southern parts of the country continue to grow. On July 7, New York added Delaware, Oklahoma and Kansas to its travel quarantine list, bringing the number of states to 19, as the pandemic continued to surge. Katko, a Syracuse-area Republican, said in a statement, “...With our community still confronting the devastating impacts of COVID-19, we cannot in good faith move forward without learning from the missteps made by those overseeing the response effort.” Read the full story at nystateofpolitics [dot] com.
